Legacy modernization
On-premise to cloud, Progress 4GL to Spark SQL. I keep the business logic that made the old system valuable and leave the rest behind.
I'm Carlos — a senior software consultant, full-stack developer and computer scientist. On-premise databases into Salesforce. Progress 4GL into Spark SQL. Products from an empty repo to something a business actually depends on.
The part I like best is the explaining. Three NASA Space Apps runs taught me that: we won a global Best Storytelling category, and it turns out the same skill is what makes a migration plan land with the people paying for it.

Extract, transform, validate, load — on Microsoft Fabric, with modular templates so the next person can read them.
Web and mobile from zero: Next.js, React, Go, Flutter, on AWS or GCP. Frontend, backend, infrastructure, deploy.
Architecture across engineering, data and product teams — and the storytelling that gets everyone to agree on one plan.
I led key components of the migration off an on-premise database, designing and building the Microsoft Fabric pipelines that extract, transform, validate and load large-scale datasets. The hard part wasn't the volume — it was proving, field by field, that what came out the other side still meant the same thing.
A platform for a major retailer that lets store operations continue when the internal systems fail. Outages stop being a revenue event: the stores keep selling, and everything reconciles when the network comes back.
A legacy data platform in the educational travel industry, transformed into cloud-optimized pipelines on Microsoft Fabric. I refactored the complex logic for semantic accuracy and introduced reusable transformation templates, so the migration reduced technical debt instead of moving it.
Designed and built from scratch: validators join a blockchain network and earn rewards per lunar cycle. I led the architecture end to end — frontend, backend, infrastructure and deployment.
A Flutter app for real-time monitoring and emergency alerting across a university campus: incident reporting, location tracking and rapid response coordination, with flows designed in Figma so students and staff could use it under stress.

Three attempts at the NASA Space Apps Challenge. The first didn't make it past the local finals. The second won locally and reached the global round, where we landed in the top 40. The third took third place locally, qualified again, and won the global Best Storytelling category — which is, honestly, the prize I wanted most.

I've organized GDG Guayaquil since 2020. DevFest, Google I/O Extended, meetups across several Ecuadorian cities — I curate the content, pick the speakers, and direct the volunteer teams who make the day actually work.
It's the loudest part of what I do, and the part that taught me the most about explaining hard things to rooms full of people who didn't come for the details.

Salesforce migration and Fabric pipelines; the offline order platform that keeps a retailer trading through outages.
Legacy platform migration into Spark SQL; the Web3 validator platform end to end; an RFID SDK integration that made an Android inventory app work across multiple hardware readers.
The campus security app, built with university stakeholders and refined until it was reliable enough to trust in an emergency.
Last-mile logistics: led a redesigned UI for a core module, built enterprise client integrations, and backend services on Express and AWS.
Refactored and extended a national pharmacy chain's mobile app with Ionic, Angular and TypeScript.
Tell me what's breaking, or what you want to build. I'll tell you honestly whether I'm the right person for it.
